Computer Literacy Program at Vidya Bhavan Orphanage, Whitefield

Our second session was on 4th November 2023, at Vidya Bhavan Orphanage, Bangalore. The experience was different from teaching at a school as they had less resources, like desks and chairs, but thankfully had an uninterrupted flow of electricity

I was welcomed by a group of around 20 children from the orphanage. Seeing them living in an orphanage, while I live a sheltered life was both heartbreaking and enlightening.

I started by dividing them into groups, as we had a limited number of computers available and couldn’t afford to give each student a laptop each. We taught them web browsing and how to draft emails, and they understood the concepts quite well. By the end of the session, they were able to navigate through the computer and draft emails with ease.

Here are some of the pictures from the session.

As it was time to leave, I was surprised by a Thank You dance, performed by the students. As they were performing, I thought to myself, ‘Are they doing this dance for me? Seriously?’ I was in shock at what my life had become. A year ago, I wouldn’t have imagined that I would be conducting these sessions to teach children my age about computer literacy, and to see my excitement being reciprocated in the form of this dance meant more to me than they could ever imagine.

Overall, the session was a success and we will continue to conduct further sessions in this orphanage. Our immediate goal is to ensure all the children reach Level 3 of the Computer Literacy program and secure the certifications.

Stay tuned for new updates.
